Westview Elementary

July 25, 2022

Dear Westview Community,

Today, I officially begin as the new principal of Westview Elementary. I am honored and
thankful that Richmond Community Schools has given me the opportunity to lead the very
elementary school that I attended in my youth giving me such great life experiences. I will work
diligently to serve the staff, students, and community to the best of my ability building on the
excellent work already under way. Mr. Jones will be helping me with the transition process to
ensure that we are ready for an excellent start to the school year.

My experience in education has been well rounded with my initial teaching areas being business
and computer science in grades 3 through 12. I have also worked as a district technology coach
at Richmond serving Westview among other elementary schools in the district. Most recently, I
was the assistant principal at Union County Middle School. I look forward to bringing this
experience back to where my education all started.

Personally, my wife, Maggie, and I live here in Richmond, Indiana. We have both worked in
education for most of our careers and she is a special education teacher in the area. I enjoy
spending time outdoors, golfing, enjoying sports, and working on my cars and other equipment.

My philosophy on education is that it is a continual process centered on individual growth.
Working with the staff, students, and community to promote growth in learning will be a
constant goal. I look forward to supporting the staff in their excellent work.

I would like to invite any Westview staff or community member to come to a cookout at the
school from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28th for an informal meet and greet. Food
and drink will be provided.

Sincerely,
Max Smith
Principal of Westview Elementary

A few general reminders about procedural items.

Students need to be in class and ready to begin their daily activities at 7:50. Our dismissal time is 2:40 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We dismiss at 1:40 on Tuesday. We need for all our students to be here daily and on time. Attendance is a priority at Westview. Please schedule all appointments after school hours.

Please remember to drive safely especially during drop off and pick up times. We have many wonderful kids and we need your support to help keep our school safe. If you are in a hurry and do not have time to wait, I suggest that you do not pull into the circle drive. There are alternative drop-off locations available; these options include dropping off your child at the corner or on one of the side streets. If you need to come into the building to talk with one of us, please park your car in a parking spot.

When we have a two-hour delay, school will start at 9:50. Breakfast is not served when we are on a two-hour delay. You can access school closings/delays by going to the Richmond Community Schools web site, listening to the radio, or watching television.
